Triphop is camp, film noir mystiek met een exotisch Moulin Rouge theaterrandje. Hees fluisterende zuchtmeisjes erotiek, doorrookt, sensueel, maar ook zo nachtdonker als maar zijn kan. Hoe bijzonder is het dat het Britse Bristol de bakermat van dit subgenre is, en dat het ver van de Franse muziekscene verwijderd is. Al snel volgt Air, maar die leggen toch wel de nadruk op de instrumentale futuristische soft erotische synthesizer sfeervelden van Jean-Michel Jarre. Daft Punk dan? Ook niet helemaal, dat is een geslaagde clubhouse variant, welke zich steeds meer richting de jaren zeventig disco van Giorgio Moroder en Nile Rodgers ontwikkelt. Zou het daar dan helemaal niet leven? Het Parijse synthpop...
